My Quilt “Be You” Finds a New Home

Be You, 36×36 inch art quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2014.

I enjoy gifting quilts, especially at Christmas. This year I gifted a quilt to each member of my management team at the DeKalb County Law Department.

My deputy Viviane Ernstes is the new owner of Be You.  I chose this quilt for her because she will be my successor. No matter how much you liked the old boss, I believe it is important for the new boss to put their own imprint on an organization. Although Viviane and I agreed on most things, I hope she will show up every day and just be Viviane.

Viviane has already told me that she loves the quilt, so I know it is gone to a good home. #joyandgratitude #dekalblaw #alifeofsimpleabundance #december

I enjoy gifting quilts, especially at Christmas. This year I gifted a quilt to each member of my management team at the DeKalb County Law Department.

My Litigation Deputy Laura Johnson is the new owner of Circles of Deep Reflection. I chose this quilt for her because Laura is always very thoughtful in her legal analysis. She does not guess. She researches.

I enjoy gifting quilts, especially at Christmas. This year I gifted a quilt to each member of my management team at the DeKalb County Law Department.

My office manager Lori Mosley is the new owner of Awesome African Elephants in My Garden #3. I chose this quilt for her because it had the word awesome in the title, and Lori is an awesome office manager. She handles everything efficiently with good judgment without being told what to do.

Lori has already told me that she loves it and has a special place to hang it, so I know it is gone to a good home. #joyandgratitude #dekalblaw #alifeofsimpleabundance #december

Quilt Gifts

Quilt gifts

Each year I surprise someone with a quilt for Christmas. This year my entire DeKalb County Law Department management team will find a quilt under their Christmas tree. It seemed a fitting way to say good-bye since I am resuming my retired life next year.

Gift tissue from the Dollar Tree

Now’s a good time to give a shoutout to the Dollar Tree. I wrap a lot of quilts for gifts or mailing. I always use tissue paper when I fold them to minimize the creases. The Dollar Tree has the best price on tissue paper — only $1.00 per pack! It probably is not archival, but I am not storing these quilts for years. I am giving them as gifts. So Dollar Tree tissue paper makes my “favorite thing” list.

Quilt are the best Christmas gifts. They are made with love, and they last forever, and when folded in tissue paper, they arrive in pristine shape. #december

I Am Dancing in My Heart

I Am Dancing In My Heart, 25 x 27 inch quilt, by O.V. Brantley, 2011. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com.

O.V.’s October, Day 26.

I am still basking in the glow of Boss’s Day. My staff went out of their way to express their love and appreciate for me and the learning environment I create for them.  It was one of those days when it is crystal clear how lucky I am  to live the life I live.

Joy and Gratitude

Joy and Gratitude, a memory quilt for the DeKalb County Law Department by O.V. Brantley, 2014.

O.V’s October, Day 25.

Today was the day when my staff covers me with love and appreciation. Today was Boss’s Day in the DeKalb County Law Department.

We always have food, and for me,  there is always a special gift that blows me away.

Me in red Ray Bans

This year the gift was a pair of red RayBan sunglasses, purchased in Italy, so they could be engraved with our office motto: “Joy and Gratitude.”  Who knew you could get sunglasses engraved?! (Apparently you can if you buy them in Italy). I was blown away, and I cried and cried tears of joy.

Engraved Ray Bans

I am so grateful to be the leader of such an amazing group of people. I love my staff. #ovsoctober #dekalblaw #alifeofsimpleabundance #joyandgratitude

P.S. If you are wondering why sunglasses in October, it is because I am leaving for a vacation in Bali next week! To quote a famous song, “life is so bright, I have to wear shades.”

Be You

Be You, 36×36 inch art quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2014. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

O.V.’s October, Day 19.

Today I had time to reflect on what I learned at the International Municipal Law Association (IMLA) annual meeting in Niagara Falls, Canada. Because it is an international conference, the most important thing you learn is that there is more than one way to solve a problem. What works for one jurisdiction may not work for another.

For me, the lesson learned is to be authentic. Be You.

Whether lawyering or quilting, being authentic is a good lesson to learn. #ovsoctober #imla #beyou #niagarafalls

Cascade of Dreams

Cascade of Dreams, 60×73 inch quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2013. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

O.V.s October, Day 14

Today I woke up in Niagara Falls Canada. Seeing Niagara Falls has long been on my bucket list, and luckily for me my annual work conference is being held here.

My quilt  Cascade of Dreams was intended to capture the feeling of a waterfall. My quilt is a lot bluer than Niagara Falls, but the point is to make sure your dreams are powerful like a mighty water fall. #ovsoctober #imla2017 #dekalblaw #niagarafalls

Grateful For Another Happy Day #3

Grateful For Another Happy Day #3, 31×34 inch art quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2017. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

O.V’s October, Day 13.

I traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada today by way of Buffalo, NY! I have never been to either cities so I added two new places to my travel map.  I love traveling especially to somewhere I have never been.

Sooo grateful!

My quilt Grateful For Another Happy Day #3 is part of a seven quilt series. The series captures my feeling about gratitude totally. I love the Julia Cairns interpretation of an African woman who just seems joyous.

My gratitude meter is really high today. #ovsoctober #gratitude #joyandgratitude #alifeofs8mpleabjndance #buffalony #niagarafalls
