Morning Coffee on My Patio

Morning Coffee on My Patio. 42x52inch art quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2018. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

We are blessed with wonderful weather in Atlanta so we tend to spend quite a bit of time outdoors. My favorite time to be outdoors is in the morning before it gets too hot. I have spent many wonderful hours on my patio with only the birds, squirrels and trees for company. Such a morning inspired this quilt.

Morning Coffee On My Patio is a quilted wallhanging with a coffee theme. Coffee cups and words are appliquéd on the front of the quilt. The same coffee fabric is on the back of the quilt. However the vibrant African prints take center stage in the quilt, which measures 42 x 52 inches. Painted buttons add texture to the quilt.

I pieced the quilt on my machine. It was quilted on a long arm in a pattern named coffee cup. The coffee cups are hard to see but they are there. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.

My Quilt “I Love Strong Coffee” Finds a New Home

I Love Strong Coffee, 70×70 inch lap quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2012. SOLD!

Sometimes I am really sad to see a quilt go. I love all of my quilts, but I do have my favorites.  I Love Strong Coffee is a favorite quilt.

Alas, I sold it and it is gone to its new home. It was one of my favorites because I love neutrals, and I loved the simple message. I even loved the back of the quilt — hearts in neutral colors.

I know it is gone to a good home. Hopefully the new owner loves strong coffee too. #december

O.V.’s Never Say Never November

Today India and I visited a coffee farm. This farm sells the famous Kopi Luwak,  coffee made from cat poop.

Kopi  Luwak

Yes, I had a cup, and bought some to take home. Apparently it has many medicinal qualities.

Cat poop coffee

We tested many other varieties of tea and coffee and learned a lot about how the beans are grown and harvested, but cat poop coffee was the star of the show. I did not have cat poop in mind when I made my quilt I Love Strong Coffee, but it seems to fit the experience

When was the last time you did something for the very first time? #ovsneversaynevernovember #brantleysinbali #alifeofsimpleabundance

Warm Quilt Wednesday: Coffee With Cream Please

Coffee With Cream Please, 64 x 76 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2010.

WARM QUILT WEDNESDAY! Quilts featured on Wednesday are large enough to cuddle up under. No wallhangings on Wednesday. In celebration of my love off coffee today’s warm quilt is Coffee With Cream Please.

This quilt is a traditional sampler quilt. The smashing and the corner blocks have a coffee theme.

Coffee With Cream Please lives on the foot of my bed. I find the browns and creams soothing and the traditional pattern comforting.

After an unexpected horrible Super Bowl loss by my Atlanta Falcons, the entire city of Atlanta is hung over. No one wanted to go to work, but duty called. Nothing to do but commiserate over coffee in the break room.

Coffee With Cream Please  is the perfect quilt for this imperfect day.

Happy National Coffee Day!

Coffee With Cream Please, 64 x 76 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2010. For sale at www.ovbrant.etsy.com.

Coffee is one of my true loves. I love the smell of a coffeehouse and the way people gather there to exchange ideas, to come up with the next big idea or simply just to reflect. Naturally, such a love for coffee would inspire a quilt.

Coffee With Cream Please is my latest coffee quilt. It started out as a traditional sampler quilt and turned into a coffee quilt when I found the coffee fabric.  It is listed for sale in my studio store. If you can’t make it to your favorite coffeehouse, enjoy my quilt!

Small Guilty Pleasures

My quilts tend to document my life — the good and the bad.  Coffee is one of my small guilty pleasures. When it’s hot in Atlanta, I just add ice.

Coffee with Cream Please is a sampler, block of the month quilt that turned into an ode to coffee,  my small guilty pleasure.  Coffee themed fabrics make this quilt special. Just looking at this quilt makes me happy.

Starbucks is Fattening and So is Everything Else I Love!

My wonderful roommates — India and Brittany– gave me a Wii Fit for Mother’s Day. So now I am obligated to try to lose 10 pounds. My initial assessment of the Wii Fit is that it pretends to be all sweet and nice, but deep down it is the devil.  After it asks you so sweetly to step on the board,  it tells you your physical age??!! Horror! Let me just say the Wii Fit thinks my Mama lied about my birth date.

All of this made me think of my quilt called Starbucks is Fattening. This quilt was conceived because the ladies in my office always showed up at Friday staff meeting with a large Starbucks concoction while continuing to talk about losing weight.  I just wanted to remind them that the two things are related.

By the way, feel free to comment and tell me I look great fro my age. It would make me feel better! 🙁
