Atlanta Snow Day

Atlanta Snow Day, 72×54 inch quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2014. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

Mother Nature surprised us and covered us with fluffy white snow. Since we were somewhat prepared by the time most of the snow arrived, the trip home was somewhat orderly by Atlanta standards.

If you were home (as I was) with electricity with nowhere to be, it was truly a masterpiece to behold.

I Believe in Angels #18 and #19 Find a New Home

SOLD!! I Believe in Angels #18, 28 x 31 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2011.

I believe that my angels are always with me standing ready to jump in at a moment’s notice should I need them. That is why I love to incorporate angels in my quilts when possible.

Two of my angel quilts have found a new home. I Believe in Angels #18 and #19 were purchased by the same collector. I know they are gone to a new home.

SOLD!! I Believe in Angels #19, 32 x 34 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2011.

I think it’s time to start some new angel quilts.

O.V.’s Never Say Never November

One of the activities on our Bali Tour was a Balinese  painting workshop. It was held in a beautiful art gallery.

It was good to be reminded how special it is to have time to create and to be taught by a master at his craft.

Master painter in Bali

I am not a painter, but I enjoyed the journey.  Like my quilt, I Am Dancing in My Heart.

O.V.’s Never Say Never November

Today India and I visited a coffee farm. This farm sells the famous Kopi Luwak,  coffee made from cat poop.

Kopi  Luwak

Yes, I had a cup, and bought some to take home. Apparently it has many medicinal qualities.

Cat poop coffee

We tested many other varieties of tea and coffee and learned a lot about how the beans are grown and harvested, but cat poop coffee was the star of the show. I did not have cat poop in mind when I made my quilt I Love Strong Coffee, but it seems to fit the experience

O.V.’s October, Day 26.

I am still basking in the glow of Boss’s Day. My staff went out of their way to express their love and appreciate for me and the learning environment I create for them.  It was one of those days when it is crystal clear how lucky I am  to live the life I live.

Joy and Gratitude

Joy and Gratitude, a memory quilt for the DeKalb County Law Department by O.V. Brantley, 2014.

O.V’s October, Day 25.

Today was the day when my staff covers me with love and appreciation. Today was Boss’s Day in the DeKalb County Law Department.

We always have food, and for me,  there is always a special gift that blows me away.

Me in red Ray Bans

This year the gift was a pair of red RayBan sunglasses, purchased in Italy, so they could be engraved with our office motto: “Joy and Gratitude.”  Who knew you could get sunglasses engraved?! (Apparently you can if you buy them in Italy). I was blown away, and I cried and cried tears of joy.

Engraved Ray Bans

I am so grateful to be the leader of such an amazing group of people. I love my staff. #ovsoctober #dekalblaw #alifeofsimpleabundance #joyandgratitude

P.S. If you are wondering why sunglasses in October, it is because I am leaving for a vacation in Bali next week! To quote a famous song, “life is so bright, I have to wear shades.”

Autumn’s Splendor

Autumn’s Splendor, 59×72 inch quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2017.

Yesterday it rained, and it was a dark and dreary day. But today was a perfect autumn day — crisp, clean and sparkling.

This is why we love October. #ovsoctober #alifeofsimpleabundance

A Simpler Time

A Simpler Time, 65×77 inch quilt , by O. V. Brantley, 2016.

O.V.’s October, Day 22.

I spent today with my closest quilting friends. We have been  working on the Passacaglia quilt since January, and today was our monthly gathering date. I decided to do mine in red and white rather than the colorful ones you may have seen in shows and online

Passacaglia progress

Since the quilt is pieced entirely by hand, there is plenty of time for conversation. It feels like the quilting bee of years gone by.

Justin on a quilt.

O.V.’s October, Day 21.

We lost our beloved Justin last year. We buried him wrapped in his quilt in the backyard within view of my kitchen window. Justin loved quilts, and he always had one that he dragged everywhere he went. Sometimes he would leave his quilt in the yard and forget where he left it. India or I would, of course, have to mount a search for Justin’s quilt.

Justin in a pile of scraps

Justin was my constant companion while I quilted, but he preferred finished quilts — and tummy rubs.

Garden Art For the Soul

When I saw Garden Art For the Soul online, I knew it was the perfect marker for Justin’s grave. I don’t really have a garden anyway. I fell in love with this piece for obvious reasons, but they have several beautiful pieces.

Justin Brantley

So today, I took a quiet moment to remember my fur grandson, and I placed this beautiful piece of art at his gravesite. I know he loves it. #ovsoctober #justinbrantley #alifeofsimpleabundance #gardenartforthesoul
