India and I visited the Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali. It will be the first and last time we ever visit a monkey forest!
The monkeys were really aggressive. They jumped on you and tried to steal your things. One of them stole India’s hand sanitizer that was hanging on the side of her purse. Later one of them tried to steal her shopping bag but instead tore it open spilling the contents on the ground. We were traumatized and had to be escorted out of the park by security!
Now I know what my mother meant when she said someone was “acting a monkey!” They were wild and crazy.
I did not have monkeys in mind when I made my quilt You Drive Me Crazy, but these monkeys did drive me to drink! India and I left the forest and found a bar.
When was the last time you did something for the very first time? #ovsneversaynevernovember #bali #monkeyforest. #gonnaseetheworld
Atlanta has had record high temperatures this week so we really haven’t had fall yet. But I am in Niagara Falls, and there is definitely a nip in the air — not cold but definitely not hot. I call it sweater weather.
I always happily anticipate fall. My quilt Almost Fall captures the moment. #ovsoctober #fall
Happy Labor Day! If you are traveling, be safe. If not, do something you enjoy.
I am enjoying my labor today – so much so that I am calling it a staycation. I have spent many enjoyable hours getting myself back on track with my long term projects. Just to name a few, I am doing a block of the month of the “Affairs of the Heart” pattern. I have managed to get 18 of the 36 blocks fused. I have named this quilt Everyday is Foreplay.
I started a new block of the month of the Kaleidoscope pattern by Quilt Addicts Anonymous. I named this quilt A Beautiful World. I managed to finish the blocks for the first 3 months. Only 9 more to go.
Finally, I made a little progress on my red and white Passacaglia quilt. Finding enough different reds to make this quilt interesting is quite an adventure. Progress is slow because this quilt is done entirely by hand.
In between working on all these projects, I watched some great football. What a great staycation!
Part of my philosophy at the DeKalb County Law Department is work life balance. So I like to celebrate special occasions by gifting quilts to staff members. It’s always a special day at work when I ceremonially gift quilts. Recently I gave 3 staff members their long awaited wedding quilts!
A Perfect Day For a Hike was a wedding gift to Aaron Ross.
Yesterday I spent an afternoon surrounded by dolphins. It was so cool!
The dolphin tour is hosted by Captain Phillip Boat Tours (captainphillip.com), and it leaves from the Jekyll Island Club Wharf on Jekyll Island, GA. Admittedly, I did not expect to actually see dolphins in the wild, but I had decided the scenic boat tour would be worth the cost of admission.
I was so wrong! Dolphins were everywhere. They were close enough for me to capture a snapshot with my IPhone! It was like they wanted to see what the people in the boat cage were up to.
It was an amazing experience that I highly recommend! I definitely see dolphins in a future quilt.
