Organize Your Quilts

Dreaming of My Ancestral Home, 60×75 inch quilt by O. V. Brantley, 2017. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com

Like most people, I am spending some time getting myself organized for the new year. The product I cannot live without is Artwork Archive software.

I make a lot of quilts. I sell some. I give away some. I keep some, and I exhibit some. It can be hard to remember which quilt is where. Artwork Archive solves that problem.

This cloud based software, which makes the information available on all my devices, has a place for everything. At it simplest, I have a place to record all the information about my quilts — name, pictures, creation date, dimensions, price, and description.  But the software goes far beyond that.

Give Yourself a Flower Garden, 58×58 inch applique quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2016.

For instance, there is a place to record exhibits and most importantly to me, locations. (You never want to lose a quilt). The software reminded me that the exhibit at the Lucy Laney Museum was ending December 31, 2017, and that Dreaming of My Ancestral Home and Give Yourself a Flower Garden would be returned to me.

Another neat feature of this software is that it allows me to create and print a certificate of authenticity for each quilt. This is very important to the people who buy my quilts.  I can also record sales, and that is very important to me.

There are many other great features of the software like a public page and a scheduler, but suffice it to say for $14.00 per month, this software gives me peace of mind and keeps me organized.

Artwork Archive is one of my favorite things. I recommend it. #joyousjanuary

Poinsettia Eve

Poinsettia Eve, 69 x 81 inch Holiday Quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2015.

I am in my peaceful place.

The gifts have been purchased. They are wrapped and under the tree.

Christmas breakfast and dinner have been planned. The food is in the refrigerator waiting to be cooked.

The guest bedrooms are ready and welcoming. The house is beautifully decorated with symbols of joy everywhere.

Nothing to do now but wait for family and Santa to arrive.

Life is good. #december #joyandgratitude #alifeofsimpleabundance

Quilt Gifts

Quilt gifts

Each year I surprise someone with a quilt for Christmas. This year my entire DeKalb County Law Department management team will find a quilt under their Christmas tree. It seemed a fitting way to say good-bye since I am resuming my retired life next year.

Gift tissue from the Dollar Tree

Now’s a good time to give a shoutout to the Dollar Tree. I wrap a lot of quilts for gifts or mailing. I always use tissue paper when I fold them to minimize the creases. The Dollar Tree has the best price on tissue paper — only $1.00 per pack! It probably is not archival, but I am not storing these quilts for years. I am giving them as gifts. So Dollar Tree tissue paper makes my “favorite thing” list.

Quilt are the best Christmas gifts. They are made with love, and they last forever, and when folded in tissue paper, they arrive in pristine shape. #december

You Drive Me Crazy

You Drive Me Crazy, 54×72 inch quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2017. For sale at ovbrantleyquilts.com.

O.V.’s Never Say Never November.

India and I visited the Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali. It will be the first  and last time we ever visit a monkey forest!

Monkey Forest

The monkeys were really aggressive.  They jumped on you and tried to steal your things. One of them stole India’s hand sanitizer that was hanging on the side of her purse. Later one of them tried to steal her shopping bag but instead tore it open spilling the contents on the ground. We were traumatized and had to be escorted out of the park by security!

Now I know what my mother meant when she said someone was “acting a monkey!” They were wild and crazy.

I did not have monkeys in mind when I made my quilt You Drive Me Crazy, but these monkeys did drive me to drink! India and I left the  forest and found a bar.

India and O.V. riding an elephant

I always thought it would be nice to ride one, but I never expected to do so.Well, this is my “Never say Never November, right? I am happy to report that I rode an elephant!

During my vacation to Bali, India and I visited the Elephant Safari Park in Ubud, Bali. Riding an elephant was fun, but being kissed by one was over the top amazing!

Kissed by an elephant

The best thing about the elephants we met was that they seemed happy! I swear the elephant we rode seemed to be smiling.

A smilng elephant

it was an unforgettable experience. India and I haven’t stopped smiling since.

They say first impressions are lasting impressions. Although we have just arrived and checked into the most beautiful hotel ever, we already love this place of tranquil, respectful beauty.

Forever Young

Forever Young, 84 x 84 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2005.

O.V.’s Never Say Never November.

India and I spent a magical day at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The experience was a first for us.

At Universal Studios

India loved the Harry Potter exhibit. She bought a wand (magical of course).  We drank butter beer, and we flew through the air like wizards (simulated of course).

India in Harry Potter World

I enjoyed the Studio Tour, but learning how movies are made does tend to take away some of the magic of movies. But the dinosaurs remained magical. We were convinced they were going to eat us.

A visit to Jurassic Park

It was a magical day.
